ChippingIntermediate
Gate to the Hole
10-20 min Solo Tees, Putting Gate, Golf Balls
Setup
Place a gate 12 inches in front of the ball on the intended chip line. Choose a 12–18 foot chip.
Drill Instructions
Hit sets of 10 chips required to pass through the gate before rolling out. Change landing spot height by club selection to learn different flights with same start line. Record gate success and up-and-down conversions.
Goal
Gate success ≥80% and at least 4/10 holed or inside 3 feet per set.
Make It Easier
Move the gate to 6 inches and widen it slightly.
Coach Tip
A square face at impact is more about path and low point than manipulation—set your body alignments.
Make It Harder
Narrow the gate and add a downslope to the target.
Avoid
Hitting down excessively and chunking; brush the grass, don’t dig.
